Scott Dunbar

INTRODUCTION OF KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

From 1975 to 1996 Scott Dunbar worked for various engineering consulting organizations. His experience includes mining exploration, geotechnical engineering, mine design, design of tailings dams, water resources engineering and hydroelectric engineering. He worked on projects in Canada, the US, Central and South America, Iran, Africa, and China.

In January 1997, he joined the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Scott Dunbar taught courses in Mine Economics, Mine Waste Management, Mine Design, Simulation, and Engineering Ethics. He was the founding director of the Integrated Engineering program, an undergraduate engineering program that focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of engineering practice, teamwork in design, independent learning, and communication skills.


 

Zach Agioutantis

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          Dr. Zach Agioutantis, Mining Engineering Foundation Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering, is one of three recipients of the 2020 College of Engineering Excellence in Research Award. Dr. Agioutantis joined UK in October 2014 after serving as professor and the director of the Rock Mechanics Laboratory at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) in Greece for over 25 years. In the past five years, Dr. Agioutantis has secured research funds totaling over $3.9 million ($3.2 as PI and $700,000 as co-PI) with a personal share of approximately $2 million. Since 2015, Dr. Agioutantis has published 23 journal papers, coauthored four book chapters and co-authored 33 peer-reviewed conference papers. Overall, he has published 78 journal papers, eight book chapters, 55 peer-reviewed conference papers and over 140 conference papers reviewed by abstract. Research Areas: Data Management and Analysis, Rock Mechanics, Subsidence Engineering, Sustainable Development, Computer Applications for the Mining and Geotechnical Industry.

 

Jürgen Kretschmann

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kretschmann is the President of the Technische Hochschule Georg. Agricola (THGA), Bochum/Germany and the presidency of the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP). He served as a member of the Advisory Committee of China-Germany mining energy and ecological environment research center in Xuzhou, China, a member of the International Union of higher education in mining, energy and environment, and vice chairman of the sustainable development and Mining Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). He studied economies at Aachen University, Bohong University and Dortmund University, and received his Ph.D. from George Auguste University in Gottingen.  In 1998, he studied at Rhine Westphalia University of technology in Aachen. He is mainly engaged in the study of sustainable resources management, mining management and risk management.

 

Oliver Langefeld

          Oliver Langefeld is head of the Department of Underground Mining Methods and Machinery. Current research areas: Blue Mining, Repositories and Construction Materials, Mining Technology and Innovation, Post-mining, Innovative teaching and communication, Safety and Ventilation Engineering. Areas of competence in research & teaching: Mining machinery, Mining methods, Occupational Health & Safety, Sustainable & Responsible Mining, Post-mining, Backfilling and waste disposal in underground mines.

 

Daniel W.H. Su

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Pittsburgh, PA.

 

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          Daniel W.H. Su received his PhD in mining engineering from West Virginia University in 1982. From 1982 to 1985, he worked as an associate professor in the Mining Department of West Virginia University. From 1986 to 2016, he worked at Console Energy Inc., the largest underground coal mining company in the United States. From 2016 to now, he has been employed by the American Institute of occupational safety and health to train and guide young scientific and technological workers in the field of mining strata control.
