Syd S. Peng

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

         Dr. Syd S. Peng, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, was born in Tanwan and graduated from Stanford University and received his Ph.D. in 1970. He was the Chair of Department of Mining Engineering, West Virginia University, U.S.A. from 1978 to 2006. He was appointed as professor of HPU since 2010. He has supervised 150 research and consulting projects from federal and state governments and private companies, and authored and coauthored 4 textbooks and 332 journal and proceedings articles in the areas of longwall mining, ground control, and respirable dust. He initiated the annual international conference on ground control in mining since 1981. It is now recognized all over the world as an annual forum for exchange of information on ground control.

 

Andrian Batugin

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          Andrian Batugin is the professor of Mining institute, National University of Science and Technology (MISIS) since 1996. He works in the field of geodynamic safety. Key words: rockburst, induced seismisity, fault reactivation, geodynamic zoning, geodynamic safety, geodynamic hazard, geodynamically dangerous zones, stress state of the rock strata, critical stress state of the Earth's crust, compression zones, tension zones. Also coal waste dumps, spontaneous combustion , environment, modelling.

 

Ismet Canbulat

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          Prof. Ismet Canbulat is a mining engineer with over 30 years of experience in research, consultancy, management, on-site and academia. He has BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from Istanbul Technical University, University of the Witwatersrand and University of Pretoria respectively. In South Africa, he worked for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where he was a Research Area Manager in Rock Engineering Programme. After 10 years in research he moved to consultancy and worked for Groundwork Consulting and later for Strata Engineering (currently Golder Associates) in Australia as a Principal Engineer. In 2008, Ismet joined Anglo American Coal in Brisbane, where he was the Group Geotechnical Engineer for underground operations until November 2014. He was responsible for leading the development of geotechnical engineering standards, procedures and the best practices, supporting operations in mine design and green field projects at concept, pre-feasibility and feasibility levels, providing technical support for business risk management, technical support for design and selection of mining equipment as well as implementation of new technologies and research findings at operations. Since 2014, Ismet is Professor, Head of School and Kenneth Finlay Chair of Rock Mechanics at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, UNSW Sydney.

 

Bern Klein

INTRODUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

          From 1990 to 1998 Bern Klein worked as a design engineering on about 300 metallurgical studies aimed at designing processes for base metal, precious metal and industrial mineral projects. In November 1997, He joined the Department of Mining and Mineral Process Engineering at the University of British Columbia. In 1999, He led efforts to create the Centre of Industrial Minerals Innovations with support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. From 1999 to 2008 he served as Graduate Advisor for the Mining Department and from 2008 to 2014, He served as Department Head. In 2013, He led an UBC proposal to create the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute and served as Acting Executive Director to launch the institute from September 2013- April 2014. His research is focused on technology and innovation for improved energy efficiency and reduced environmental footprint in mining.

 

André Cezar Zingano

          André Cezar Zingano (geotechnics and rock mechanics): graduated in Mining Engineering (1990) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, PhD in Engineering in 2002. MSc in mining, metallurgical and materials engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1996) In the field of geostatistics and doctorate in (2002) in the Rock Mechanics research area, with a sandwich doctorate at the WVU under the advice of Prof. Syd Peng. Post-doctoral at WVU in 2006 and 2007.
